“What exactly is the portfolio of Seyi Tinubu?” – Nigerians Question His Role at Justice Kekere-Ekun’s Swearing-In
Nigerians have expressed concern and raised questions over the presence of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, at the swearing-in ceremony of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
The ceremony, held on Friday at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja, saw Justice Kekere-Ekun take her oath of office as the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria, succeeding Olukayode Ariwoola. While the event was marked by the attendance of key government officials, the appearance of Seyi Tinubu sparked controversy among the public.
Images of Seyi Tinubu at the event circulated widely on social media, leading many to question his role and the appropriateness of his presence at a high-profile government event typically reserved for top officials. Social media platforms were abuzz with users expressing their views.
One user, tweeting under the handle #BetaCountri, questioned Seyi’s official role, asking, “What exactly is the portfolio of Seyi Tinubu in this government that he is allowed in the front at the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Kekere-Ekun?”
Another user, #Ayemojubar, similarly wondered, “What is Seyi Tinubu doing at the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Kekere-Ekun as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria?”
While some criticized his attendance, others defended it. A user identified as The Philosopher commented on Facebook, “If your father was President, I’m very sure you would be sitting in that same position or in front. Hypocrites everywhere.”
Similarly, on Instagram, #Adelion wrote, “Nigerians and the way they reason. If you intend to go far in your chosen career, you learn how it is done. These are classes someone at his level should take to understand how it is done. Nothing new.”
The mixed reactions highlight a broader discussion among Nigerians regarding the influence and involvement of the president’s family in government affairs. While some view it as inappropriate, others see it as a natural consequence of being close to power.
