“We Will Definitely Pass a State Police to Improve Security” — Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence in the creation of state police as a measure to enhance security across Nigeria. Speaking Thursday night at a caucus meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) governors at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu highlighted his recent discussions with US and European leaders on the initiative.
“I had a very long discussion with the US and European leaders. I was bragging to them that definitely we will pass a state police to improve security,” he said, adding that he is confident in the backing of his party to make it happen.
Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing the Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy. He emphasized the importance of practical execution, including direct funding to local governments, describing it as essential for genuine autonomy.
He urged governors to take active roles in their states, stressing flexibility and engagement at all levels of governance. According to the president, leadership requires navigating challenges while ensuring local governments receive the necessary resources to operate independently.
