We Have Not Suspended Osun Speaker – Conference Chairman Denies Trending Report

Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin, has firmly denied claims that the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Adewale Egbedun, has been suspended from the Conference. In a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday and reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ogundoyin described the suspension claims as false, malicious, and a calculated attempt to mislead the public.

According to Ogundoyin, a recent online blog report alleging that Egbedun was suspended over insubordination and abuse of office is entirely unfounded. He clarified that no such disciplinary action was taken, and no press conference or official statement was made by him or any authorized representative of the Conference to that effect.

He emphasized that the Conference remains a transparent and credible institution that upholds due process in all its dealings, including matters of discipline. He reiterated that Egbedun is still a respected and fully participating member of the Conference who has not committed any wrongdoing.

Ogundoyin expressed disappointment over the conduct of the blog that published the report, labeling the story as a baseless fabrication that lacks journalistic integrity. He urged media organizations to verify facts before publication, warning that misleading reports can harm reputations and misinform the public.

He called for a full retraction and public apology from the platform responsible for the report, cautioning that the Conference may consider legal action if corrective steps are not taken. Ogundoyin concluded with a reminder that while the press enjoys freedom, it must also uphold responsibility, especially in the fight against fake news.
