(JUST IN) Voice of the People: Amamgbo Clinches ADC Ticket, Promises Bold Representation for Anambra South (Photos)

Barrister Donald Chidi Amamgbo has officially emerged as the senatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the upcoming Anambra South by-election, scheduled to take place on August 16, 2025.

Amamgbo clinched the party’s ticket unopposed after other aspirants stepped down in a show of unity during the ADC primary held on Saturday. The withdrawal of competing candidates paved the way for a consensus candidacy, reinforcing the party’s internal cohesion and strategic focus ahead of the crucial poll.

The primary was conducted via a voice affirmation process following a motion moved by Hon. Ndukuba Chinedu, Chairman of Ihiala Local Government Area, and seconded by Chief Anene Chukwudi of Orumba South. Party officials declared the exercise transparent and fully compliant with the ADC’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

Speaking after the ratification, ADC State Chairman, Comrade Patrick Obianyo, commended the process as a strong example of internal democracy and party discipline. He expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the forthcoming by-election.

“Our delegates have spoken with one voice. What we witnessed today is unity, maturity, and a shared vision. With Amamgbo leading our charge, we are ready to win Anambra South,” Obianyo stated.

Chairman of the ADC Board of Trustees, Chief Godson Okoye, also lauded Amamgbo’s emergence, describing him as a highly respected legal practitioner with both national and international credentials. He emphasized the critical role of the Senate in translating national policy into local impact.

“This is a significant election for our party, the first since our national coalition. Nigerians are watching and waiting for the ADC to chart a new course. Amamgbo is the right candidate to deliver that hope,” Okoye said.

In his acceptance speech, Amamgbo expressed deep appreciation to party leaders and delegates for their unanimous support. He pledged to champion a bold, people-centered legislative agenda if elected.

“We are taking this campaign to the heart of Anambra South with a clear message: representation must be about the people. I will be a bold voice for our communities in the Senate,” he declared.

He outlined key areas of focus, including insecurity, unemployment, and corruption—issues he described as pressing realities for his constituents.

“As a legislator, I will sponsor bills and motions that provide direct solutions to the challenges facing our region. We will demand a stronger federal security presence in the South East, push for job creation policies that work, and hold institutions accountable in the fight against corruption,” Amamgbo added.

He also promised to advocate for strategic intervention funds, youth empowerment laws, and oversight that ensures tangible results for the people of Anambra South.

With the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) still embroiled in internal disputes and yet to produce a candidate, political observers say ADC may be in a strong position to consolidate support across the district.

As the race for the Senate seat heats up, all eyes are now on Amamgbo and the ADC to see if their message of bold, people-first leadership will resonate at the ballot box on August 16.
