Virgin Mary Painting is Only Item to Survive Devastating House Fire in Serbia
A fire that ravaged a family home in the town of Senta, northern Serbia, has left many astonished, as the only item to survive the blaze was a painting of the Virgin Mary. The fire, which destroyed nearly everything inside the house, spared nothing but the revered image of the Holy Mother.
Firefighter Nenad Matijasevic, who was part of the crew working to put out the flames, discovered the painting untouched in the midst of the devastation. The homeowners, who view the Virgin Mary as a powerful symbol of faith and hope, were overwhelmed by the sight of the icon intact among the ruins.
The Serbian Interior Ministry described the event as a miracle, stressing the emotional weight that such moments carry. “In moments when they fight the fire, firefighters save memories, and restore faith and those things that mean the most to people,” the ministry stated. They also referred to the act of saving precious items as more than just duty, but a reflection of humanity and a deeper calling.
This miraculous survival mirrors similar stories of divine intervention reported across the world. Last year in Guatemala, a fire destroyed nearly all the books in a local shop, but several Bibles remained unscathed. The event left firefighters in awe, with one recalling, “The word of God is incredible because the Bibles are intact.”
Such stories of religious items surviving unimaginable circumstances are not new. During World War I, Private Leslie Friston, a soldier in the Royal Army Medical Corps, credited a Bible with saving his life after he was injured in a gas attack. Though he suffered blindness and respiratory issues, Friston believed that the Bible he kept by his side helped protect him from even greater harm.
