VIDEO: UBA Staff Escape Through Windows as Fire Engulfs Lagos Island Branch
Panic gripped Broad Street on Lagos Island on Monday after a fire broke out at a United Bank for Africa (UBA) branch, forcing some employees to flee through the building’s windows.
A video widely circulated online shows staff being assisted out of the premises with the help of a ladder provided by the Lagos State Fire Service. In a particularly dramatic moment, one employee was seen leaping from a storey floor in a desperate attempt to escape the flames.
The footage also captured distressed voices, with one bystander exclaiming, *“that guy is dead,”* as others appeared stranded on the upper floors, unable to jump due to the height.
As of press time, the cause of the fire has not been determined. Authorities have yet to confirm if there were any casualties, though the building sustained significant damage.
Emergency responders were still on the scene working to contain the situation.
