Video: Police, Air Force Personnel Exchange Fisticuffs Over Drug Suspect in Delta

A violent altercation broke out between police officers and air force personnel in Delta State this week, drawing public attention after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.

The footage, shared on X on Wednesday, captured operatives from both security agencies engaging in a heated physical confrontation. The clash involved fistfights, wrestling, and the use of gun butts, as onlookers jeered, cheered, and recorded the chaotic scene.

According to a statement from Delta State Police spokesperson Edafe Bright, the incident occurred when police officers from the Quick Response Squad (QRS) were transporting a suspect found in possession of substances suspected to be codeine, Indian hemp, and Canadian loud. The situation escalated when air force personnel, allegedly acquainted with the suspect, intercepted the officers and demanded his release.

Bright described the attack as unprovoked and reaffirmed the strong relationship between the police and the Nigerian Air Force in Delta State. He added that the state’s police commissioner, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, alongside air force authorities, is investigating the matter and taking steps to prevent a recurrence of such an embarrassing incident.
