Veteran ‘New Masquerade’ Actor Clarus Dies at 85
Davis Ofor, widely known for his role as Clarus in the classic Nigerian sitcom New Masquerade, has died at the age of 85.
His death was announced on Tuesday by fellow actor Tony Akposheri, who played Zacky in the popular television series. In a post shared on Instagram, Akposheri expressed grief over the loss and reflected on their recent time together.
According to him, both men had spent time together earlier in the year discussing life, memories, and future plans, making the news of Ofor’s passing unexpected.
*New Masquerade*, which aired on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in the 1980s and early 1990s, was one of the country’s most widely watched sitcoms. Ofor’s portrayal of Clarus, a comedic houseboy, made him a household name and earned him enduring recognition among viewers.
His performance contributed significantly to the show’s popularity, with his character providing comic relief that resonated with audiences across generations.
Details surrounding the cause of death have not been disclosed.
