US Offers $3,000 Incentive for Undocumented Migrants to Voluntarily Leave by Year-End

 

The United States Department of Homeland Security has launched a limited-time programme offering $3,000 to undocumented migrants who voluntarily leave the country before the end of the year. The initiative, called “Project Homecoming,” also provides participants with a free flight home and forgiveness of any civil fines or penalties related to their immigration status.

 

The programme, available through the CBP Home app, allows migrants to register for self-deportation quickly and without cost. Since its launch in May 2025, approximately 1.9 million undocumented migrants have voluntarily left the United States, with tens of thousands using the app.

 

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described the holiday incentive as a temporary boost to encourage voluntary departures. She emphasized that those who do not participate could face arrest, deportation, and permanent restrictions on returning to the U.S.

 

Originally, Project Homecoming offered $1,000 and a free flight, funded by $250 million reallocated from refugee resettlement programs. The department stressed that the process is straightforward: migrants submit their details through the app, and DHS arranges and covers their travel.
