UNN Student Beaten to Death Over Suspected Phone Theft
A student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has died after an alleged assault by fellow students at the Eni Njoku male hostel. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear, and the identity of the victim has not been officially confirmed.
A widely circulated Facebook post by influencer Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi reported that the student was forcefully taken out and beaten by other hostel occupants who suspected him of stealing a phone. He sustained serious injuries during the attack, and attempts to save him were unsuccessful.
As of Thursday, the university administration had not released a formal statement on the case. The acting Public Relations Officer, Inya Agha Egwu, said he was away in Lagos and unable to provide details. A senior lecturer, however, confirmed the incident, describing it as deeply shocking and insisting that those responsible must face consequences.
