Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has approved an amnesty programme for students who have overstayed in the institution. The announcement was made by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi, during the 238th meeting of the University Senate held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Faculty of Social Sciences auditorium.
Professor Arinze-Umobi explained that the decision followed numerous appeals from affected students, prompting her to present the matter for Senate approval. She stated that the amnesty will cover the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 academic sessions, urging all eligible students to take advantage of the opportunity to resolve their academic issues and complete their programmes.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor highlighted several achievements recorded by the university in recent months, including UNIZIK’s selection as one of three universities in each of the six geopolitical zones to benefit from TETFund sponsorship for postgraduate students. She also revealed that fourteen panels, comprising forty-two members, had conducted resource verification visits to the university in preparation for the establishment of twenty-three new academic programmes.
Professor Arinze-Umobi expressed appreciation to staff and students for their cooperation in maintaining peace and stability on campus, noting that such harmony remains vital to the university’s continued growth and success.
