Two Planes Collide at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

In an incident at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on Thursday morning, the wingtips of two Japan Airlines (JAL) passenger planes collided, according to local media reports.

The collision occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. local time, as confirmed by JAL. Both planes sustained damage, but no injuries were reported, as stated by public broadcaster NHK.

The incident involved JAL Flight 503, which was scheduled to fly to Hokkaido’s New Chitose Airport. The aircraft was backing out of its parking spot when it collided with another plane moving forward into an adjacent parking spot. Flight 503, carrying 328 passengers, was subsequently cancelled. The other aircraft, which had no passengers on board at the time, had its flight delayed to facilitate a plane change.

This collision is the latest in a series of recent airfield incidents. On January 2, a JAL passenger jet collided with a Japan Coast Guard plane at Haneda Airport, resulting in the deaths of five of the six crew members on the Coast Guard plane. Additionally, on January 16, a Korean Air aircraft clipped a parked Cathay Pacific plane at New Chitose Airport, and on February 1, two All Nippon Airways jets bumped wings at an airport in Osaka.
