“Tinubu’s Appointments Are Sectional and Violate the Constitution” – Senator Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South in the National Assembly, has openly criticised President Bola Tinubu’s pattern of political appointments, describing them as sectional and in violation of Nigeria’s constitutional principles.

During an appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Monday, Ndume said the appointments made by the president so far do not reflect the federal character as mandated by Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution. He emphasized that his position was based on verifiable data, which he said he had already shared with the media.

Ndume stressed that while the president holds the authority to make appointments, that power is bound by constitutional guidelines designed to ensure inclusivity and balance across Nigeria’s diverse regions. He warned that disregarding these provisions could have long-term consequences.

According to the senator, his remarks were not meant as a personal attack on President Tinubu but were in line with his legislative duty to hold the executive accountable. He noted that oversight is a critical function of the National Assembly and that raising such concerns is part of the oath he took when assuming office.

Ndume acknowledged that his statements may attract criticism from supporters of the administration, whom he described as “attack dogs” or “maga-dogs,” but insisted that he would not be silenced. He said his position is driven by a sense of duty to his constituents and the country, not by personal animosity.

He added that public accountability is not just a political responsibility but a moral one, stating that every public official will eventually have to answer to a higher power for their actions.
