Tinubu Signs Bills Establishing Three New Tertiary Institutions in South-East

President Bola Tinubu has signed into law three bills establishing new federal tertiary institutions in Nigeria’s south-east region. The announcement was made by Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu during a mid-term assessment briefing held Tuesday at the National Assembly in Abuja.

The newly established institutions include the Federal College of Education in Bende, Abia State; the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Item Bende, Abia State; and the Federal University in Okigwe, Imo State.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised President Tinubu’s action, describing it as a clear expression of inclusive governance and a meaningful step toward national reconciliation. He also acknowledged the efforts of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, who sponsored two of the bills, along with south-east senators Patrick Ndubueze, Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, and Osita Ngwu for their legislative contributions.

In a statement released by his media adviser, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio emphasized that the new institutions would not only expand access to quality education but also contribute to improved healthcare outcomes in the region. He highlighted the move as part of the administration’s broader strategy to address long-standing grievances and perceptions of marginalisation in the south-east.

“I applaud President Tinubu for his inclusive leadership and demonstrated commitment to the development of the south-east region and efforts to heal the deep-seated wounds of the past,” Akpabio said. “The establishment of these institutions will go a long way to remove the nagging feelings of distrust and socio-economic marginalisation among the people of the south-east. I commend the president for his open-heartedness and unrestrained affection for the region.”

He called on residents of the south-east to embrace the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration and work towards building a stronger, more unified Nigeria.
