Tinubu Set to Launch Nigeria’s First Electric Tricycles in Abuja Wednesday

Nigeria will debut its first electric tricycles on Wednesday as part of a broader push to expand clean-energy transport. Officials say the launch, scheduled for November 26 at Eagle Square in Abuja, will be led by President Bola Tinubu.

Israel Olajumoke, chief executive of House of Destiny, the company driving the project, told reporters that the initiative was originally developed by his team before gaining federal backing. He described the electric tricycles as a strategic addition to national plans for economic growth, environmental protection, and youth empowerment. The project is being executed in partnership with the federal ministry of youth development.

Olajumoke said the move aligns with global trends in clean mobility, noting that the technology is designed to be eco-friendly, efficient, and easy to maintain. House of Destiny has also partnered with the National Association of Tricycle Owners and Riders to support nationwide rollout.

Addressing concerns about power supply, he explained that the tricycles can be charged using any available source, including the national grid, generators, or solar systems, and come with their own charging devices.

He added that the vehicles use straightforward assembly systems and rely on replaceable components, which reduces maintenance challenges. Although the company currently works with Chinese manufacturing partners, it is completing a local assembly plant in the Abuja free trade zone, expected to be operational within six months.

Plans are underway to establish additional factories across the country, beginning with Ogun State. Olajumoke described the project as a transformative effort aimed at expanding across Nigeria and ultimately into other African markets.
