Tinubu Appoints Ogunjimi as Acting Accountant General of the Federation
President Bola Tinubu has named Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation. The appointment follows the pre-retirement leave of the outgoing Accountant General, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, and takes effect immediately.
Ogunjimi, a seasoned career civil servant and the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), steps into the role with over three decades of experience in financial management across both public and private sectors. His credentials include previous roles as Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
President Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, highlighted Ogunjimi’s professional expertise, noting his qualifications as a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist. Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting.
In his statement, President Tinubu expressed confidence in Ogunjimi’s ability to oversee the nation’s treasury operations effectively, describing the Office of the Accountant General as pivotal to the administration’s economic reforms. He emphasized that Ogunjimi’s appointment ensures continuity and strengthens the ongoing treasury policy reforms.
The President also acknowledged Dr. Madein’s contributions, praising her for her dedication and service. Dr. Madein, who will officially retire on March 7, 2025, was commended for her leadership during her tenure.
