“This Is Completely False” – Okonjo-Iweala Denies Viral Anti-Tinubu Post
Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), has clarified that a viral post criticizing President Bola Tinubu over Nigeria’s security situation is fake.
In a statement shared via her verified X account, the former Nigerian Finance Minister described the post as misleading and urged the public to disregard it. She noted that the message, widely circulated on social media, is part of a recurring trend of misinformation using her name to create political controversy.
“I have recently been made aware of yet another fake post circulating on social media purporting to quote me as criticising President Tinubu. This is completely false,” Okonjo-Iweala said.
She called on Nigerians to verify information before sharing and warned against the misuse of public figures’ names for political purposes.
Okonjo-Iweala reaffirmed her focus on her international duties at the WTO, emphasizing her commitment to trade-led growth and support for developing economies, including Nigeria.
