“This government is killing Nigerians” — Amaechi faults Tinubu over Maiduguri bombings
Rotimi Amaechi has criticised the administration of Bola Tinubu following a series of bomb explosions in Maiduguri that left dozens dead and more than 100 injured.
The attacks occurred on Monday night at multiple locations across the city, including a busy market, the entrance to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office flyover. Authorities confirmed that at least 23 people were killed.
In a statement released Tuesday, Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and ex-minister of transportation, described the incidents as evidence of what he called the federal government’s failure to ensure security.
He accused the administration of lacking the capacity to protect lives and property, arguing that continued attacks reflect deeper problems in leadership and response to insecurity.
Amaechi said citizens are being forced to live in fear while, in his view, those in power have not taken sufficient action to address the situation. He also criticised what he described as a pattern of official responses that fail to match the scale of the crisis.
The former governor questioned how long such incidents would continue without significant intervention, stating that insecurity has become a daily concern for many Nigerians.
He added that leadership requires accountability and decisive action, and argued that the current situation shows a gap between those expectations and government performance.
Amaechi extended condolences to victims and residents of Borno State, while calling for stronger measures to address ongoing security challenges.
