“They’re Following What You Taught Them” — Odinkalu Mocks Malami Over EFCC Claims
Chidi Odinkalu, former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, has criticized former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami over his recent allegation that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is acting politically in its dealings with him.
In a post on X on Sunday, Odinkalu described Malami as a “grubby, vexatiously political Attorney-General” during his tenure. He added that if Malami now sees the EFCC as politicized, he should remember that “they’re following what he taught them.”
“Someone should tell Abubakar Malami to please sit this out. He was a grubby, vexatiously political Attorney-General,” Odinkalu wrote. “If he’s now complaining that EFCC is political, they should tell him that they’re following what he taught them. They have no need to deny it.”
Odinkalu’s remarks follow Malami’s claim that the EFCC revoked his bail after he attended a political rally in Kebbi State. The commission, however, stated that Malami had not complied with the five conditions attached to his provisional bail and dismissed his claims as “untenable.”
The EFCC reiterated that it operates apolitically and urged Malami to focus on meeting his bail obligations instead of making what it described as “bogus claims.”
Malami is currently under investigation for alleged money laundering, abuse of office, and terrorism financing, though he maintains that he has complied with all bail conditions.
