Forex Ban: PDP Slams Buhari, Says President Out to Punish Nigerians

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for his directive to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop issuing forex to food importers in the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP said the directive was a plot to punish Nigerians by further worsening the harsh economic conditions in the country.

See statement

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) describes President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to stifle food importation in the country as mean, ill-timed and completely against the wellbeing of Nigerians.

“The PDP states that this directive will worsen food scarcity, exacerbate the already harsh economic situation and the general depression, frustration, resentment and despair in our country under President Buhari’s watch.

“It is indeed appalling that instead of bringing solutions to the depreciating living conditions in our nation, President Buhari is rather imposing more suffering by ordering the removal of subsidy on food even when it is manifestly clear that he had failed on all fronts to achieve any level of food security despite the huge resources available to his administration.

“The party says by the directive, the Buhari Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have again demonstrated their insensitivity towards millions of Nigerians who are already suffering acute hunger and starvation due to severe food shortage and high prices brought by President Buhari’s misrule.

“The PDP states strongly that Nigerians do not, in any way, deserve such suffering being foisted on them by such directive on food.

“Such situation will only breed further despondency among our citizens, heighten our security challenges and put more pressure on compatriots, many of who, in the face of suffering occasioned by APC misrule, are resorting to suicide and slavery mission as options.

“Instead of removing subsidy on food and putting more suffering on Nigerians, the PDP urges President Buhari to cut the billions of naira being wasted on luxuries in his Presidency and free the funds for the welfare of the masses.

“Furthermore, the PDP urges President Buhari to recover the over N14 trillion siphoned by APC interests under his administration including the stolen N9 trillion detailed in the leaked NNPC memo and channel the resources towards food security for Nigerians.

“The PDP states that it is a complete disservice to Nigerians for the government to place restrictive directives on food for the masses, while interests condoned by the same administration are frittering our common patrimony.

“The PDP wants to believe that while Mr. President enjoys the comfort, luxury, sufficiency and safety of the government house, he is barely aware of the sufferings of Nigerians.

“Our party therefore charges President Buhari to immediately rescind his directive before it inflicts more damage on the polity.

Probe: Borrow a Leaf From Oyo Governor, Makinde, Okorocha Tells Ihedioha

The immediate past governor of Imo state, Senator Rochas Okorocha has told his successor in office, Emeka Ihedioha to borrow a leaf from his Oyo state counterpart, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

Okorocha in a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo said Makinde has said he will not scrap the good policies of his predecessor. Okorocha described Ihedioha as pursuing a vendetta mission against him with the several committees he has set up to investigate him since assuming office.

The statement read, “On Wednesday, August 14, 2019 Governor Emeka Ihedioha announced the Constitution of a 7-man Judicial Commission of Inquiry on lands’ allocations from June 2006 to May 2019

“Looking at the members of the panel, who are all card-carrying members of the PDP and their terms of reference, one would have no other option than to conclude that the governor as usual, has his target or mission, which is to continue his vendetta against the past APC government in the State and the man who headed it, Senator Rochas Okorocha.

“Governor Ihedioha has set up more than fourteen Committees and Panels since he became governor and each of the Committees or Panels has one or two specific assignments to carry out and all against the APC government which Senator Okorocha had led.

“For instance, the Prof. Jude Njoku’s education committee took no other action than to take over the PPP-oriented Eastern Palm University and also scrapped the six new Universities, four new Polytechnics and three new Colleges of Education built by Okorocha.

“We would only ask Governor Ihedioha to borrow a leaf from his fellow PDP governor, who also succeeded an APC governor in Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, who said that he wouldn’t “Cancel APC Administration’s good policies”.

“That is how a governor who means well should reason or act, because at the end of the day, the overall interest of the State and her people should remain the ultimate goal

Bayelsa Guber Poll: Dickson, Alaibe Clash Over PDP Primary

Ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary election in Bayelsa state, the state’s governor, Seriake Dickson has accused the former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Timi Alaibe of employing blackmail to secure the party’s ticket.

Dickson in a statement on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media Relations, Mr. Fidelis Soriwei decried Alaibe’s antics.

Soriwei said: “It has come to the attention of the government that the former managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Chief Timi Alaibe, has been spreading manipulated audio recordings of Governor Dickson’s public utterance during meetings.

“It is curious that Alaibe would rather dissipate energy to the propagation of mischief rather than focusing attention on his gubernatorial campaigns.

“We wish to reiterate for the umpteenth time that the governor, as a major stakeholder in the issue of the governorship primaries, is entitled to his own political views and decisions. And that does not preclude any politician with genuine interest from testing his popularity with the delegates.

The governor’s accusations elicited a response from the Alaibe’s camp. Responding, the Administrative Secretary of Alibe’s Campaign Organisation, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, said that the organisation “took serious exception to the wrong use of tar-brush and gutter language to describe the person of our principal (Alibe) with the intent to incite the public against him; particularly over an issue he knows absolutely nothing about.

“Neither Alaibe nor any member of his Campaign Organisation was at the meetings referred to in the public statement issued on Wednesday. If any of us has access to the recorded discussion mentioned in the public statement, such access can only be traced to the originators of the statement.

“Our focus is to conduct our campaign on issues that will lead to the development of Bayelsa State through a shared economic prosperity and not waste energy and time on commonplace matters.”

Brisibe said that the campaign organisation would not continue to bear in silence all the provocative and insulting statements by certain individuals and groups against the person of Alibe and therefore, chose to say for the first time that enough is enough.

“Our silence should not be misconstrued to mean timidity, fear or any such thing. It was basically and still a measure of the respect we and our principal have for the person and office of the Governor. Unfortunately, that respect has not been reciprocated,” Brisibe said.

He added that: “At the point of expressing interest in this race, we were enjoined by the party leadership to run a clean campaign. We have been faithful to that directive and will continue to be.

“This is an internal contest in which the eventual choice of the party would need the support of other contestants to win the governorship election. It would therefore be unhelpful to take up issues with anyone as though winning the party ticket is a matter of life and death; certainly not with the governor who is neither a contestant in the race nor expected to sponsor any of the aspirants.

“Let it be known that we are not desperate but determined to win this race, by the grace of God. We will not allow ourselves to be distracted neither shall we engage in any indecent act or sinister strategies for the sake of this race. We are too focused to be distracted.

South West PDP Commends Makinde, Demands Probe of Ajimobi’s Administration

The South West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has commended the governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde for giving the state a new lease of life since he assumed office.

The party in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesman, Mr. Ayo Fadaka demanded the probe of the administration of former governor Abiola Ajimobi.

The statement read: “We note with sadness a statement credited to the immediate past Governor of the State to the effect that the issues of missing Government vehicles is a “minor issue” and that such was not “worthy” of the attention of government.

“We equally note that his attempt to whimsically dismiss fraudulent and sharp practices of this magnitude clearly underscore the levity with which the State’s resources were carelessly frittered under his watch.

“The Oyo State Government continues to maintain that many of the cars procured in February 2019 by the Ajimobi administration remain missing and such vehicles, in view of their age, cannot be classified and described as unserviceable.

“We, therefore, demand of Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the former Oyo State Governor, to take due cognisance of what posterity will say concerning him and his tenure and immediately impress it on his appointees to return those vehicles to the new government.

“We also recall that the Ajimobi administration awarded a N7billion contract for a upstart contractor who is nowhere to be found after the sum of N2billion was paid to him.

“This is grand larceny and it is sad that this happened in Oyo State.

“In view of the foregoing, Governor Seyi Makinde must do a proper audit of what transpired in the Ajimobi years, as it will help the people of the State to realise how criminal actions were perpetrated under the guise of governance.

“We, however, congratulate Gov Makinde for bringing laughter back to the lips of Oyo State workers and especially pensioners through his administration’s payment of 100 per cent of their emoluments as against the inhuman 20 per cent paid under the APC administration of Senator Ajimobi.

“This action demonstrates Makinde’s respect for the people he governs and also an attestation of PDP’s genuine care for the people. The people of the State are certainly in for a dose of compassionate administration. We also ask the people of the South West region to take due cognisance of developments in Oyo and now resolve to ensure that they vote the PDP in the next round of elections across the Zone.

#RevolutionNow: Leave Atiku Alone and Face Yourself-Inflicted Resentment From Nigerians, PDP tells Buhari, APC

The main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the president Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to leave its presidential candidate in the 2019 general election, Atiku Abubakar alone and face the resentment of Nigerians to the administration’s misrule.

The party was responding to claims made by the APC on Thursday that Atiku instigated the convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore to stage protests. In a statement issued by the party’s national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan on Friday, the party said Atiku has always displayed patriotism and maintained decorum on national issues.

See statement

“The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to yet another pitiable and disgraceful press statement by the discomfited All Progressives Congress (APC) wherein it once again resorted to fabrications, insults and attempts to invent allegations against the peoples’ candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

“Our party, for the umpteenth time, urges the Buhari Presidency and the APC to leave Atiku Abubakar alone and face their self-inflicted resentment from Nigerians by answering for their misrule for which compatriots have now become agitated on all fronts.

“The PDP says it is despicable that the Buhari Presidency and the APC have not yet realized that Nigerians are aware that since their defence fell apart at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, they have become nervous and desperate to invent any means to frame and drag down Atiku Abubakar; a plot that has already failed.

“It is indeed not surprising that the APC, in its desperation, is now playing opposition, which is a role fitting of it, being that it does not have the mandate of the people; the very reason it cannot command the respect, loyalty and support of the citizens in the midst of its misrule.

“The PDP maintains that Atiku Abubakar, as a leader of choice, has never faltered in displaying the highest sense of patriotism, restrain and decorum in his positions on national issues and, standing with overwhelming majority of Nigerians, cannot be intimidated or distracted from pursing the retrieval of his stolen Presidential mandate at the tribunal.

“Instead of fixating on Atiku, the APC should help the Commander-in-Chief to provide answers for escalated insecurity in our country under his watch; with insurgents, marauders, bandits and kidnappers holding our nation hostage and turning her into a killing field and large funeral palour in the last four years.

“Furthermore, the APC should rather be helping President Buhari to answer Nigerians on how his administration wrecked our once robust economy, entrenched corruption, frittered trillions of naira, turned our nation into world poverty capital and foisted joblessness, acute hunger and starvation; human right abuses and downright impunity, which have spurred resentment to the extent that Nigerians are now desperate to take their destinies in the hands with many resorting to suicide and slavery missions abroad.

“Moreover, the APC should look inwards, do some soul searching and face the miseries it sired instead of seeking for a scapegoat where there is none.

“Let it therefore be known to the APC and the Buhari Presidency that the PDP and Nigerians stand with Atiku Abubakar in the collective national determination to retrieve our stolen presidential mandate at the court and we are confident that justice for the people will prevail at the end of the day.”
