Bayelsa: How Nigerians Reacted to Supreme Court’s Judgement that Sacked Lyon

See Pictures of Bayelsa Governor-Elect, Lyon in Last Minute Rehearsals Before Supreme Court Thwarted His Dream Day

Following Thursday’s Supreme Court verdict which nullified the victory of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), David Lyon in the November 16, 2019 Bayelsa state gubernatorial election, Nigerians took to social media to react to the ruling of the apex court.

Some welcomed the judgement, arguing that it was the right thing to do after Lyon’s running mate, Degi-Eremienyo was discovered to have submitted forged academic certificates. Others blamed the APC screening committee for failing to spot the discrepancies in Eremienyo’s documents which were later submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

See some of the reactions,

Honestly I feel for the Governor-elect of Bayelsa State! If he was the one with fake certificate, I would have dragged him but to pay for the crime of his deputy is so sad.
The law must be obeyed but this is not fair! It should be that the deputy Gov elect that should be sacked!

You guys don't know how insane this is? Partisan bias aside I feel bad for Lyon. Do you know the preparation that goes into the swear in? All the hundreds of millions. Aso Ebi? Families that traveled from world over? Hotel bills? Prepped after parties?

The Nigeria Police must move quickly – arrest, investigate and prosecute the FORMER INCOMING Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State cum alleged certificate forger for forgery.

Supreme Court just changed the poor man’s Valentines Day to Frankenstein’s Day! A man that planned to give his wife the time of her life tomorrow, will now grieve his wife the cry of her life. What will they call him now? Pre Governor?

David Lyon was supposed to be sworn in as governor of Bayelsa state tomorrow. He was rehearsing when destiny was reversed. Nigerian Politics is not for the faint-hearted 😭🤣 pic.twitter.com/TfJowgF57R

Did the APC not screen its candidates?

What the heck then was that screening committee meant for?

How did a dodgy Deputy find his way on the ticket?

Where was the mechanism for checking such irregularities, within the party, and on submission at INEC?

🤦🏾‍♂️
