Supercomputer Predicts Winner of 2025 AFCON
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) could see Morocco emerge as champions, according to predictions from the Opta supercomputer. As hosts of the tournament, Morocco enjoy home advantage and enter the competition as FIFA’s highest-ranked African nation, currently 11th in the global standings. Their strong showing at the 2022 World Cup, combined with key players such as Achraf Hakimi, Brahim Díaz, Noussair Mazraoui, and Yassine Bounou, gives them a 19.1% chance of lifting the trophy.
North African sides dominate the top predictions, with Egypt, seven-time AFCON winners, given a 12.4% chance. Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush, and their teammates will aim to end a title drought that stretches back to 2010. Algeria, Morocco’s regional rivals, follow closely with a 12.0% probability of claiming only a third continental title.
Senegal, the 2021 champions, are also among the leading contenders, positioned between Egypt and Algeria in the supercomputer’s forecast. Meanwhile, Nigeria ranks as the fifth favorite with a 7.3% chance of winning, despite the presence of stars like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman. The Super Eagles, runners-up in 2023, are chasing their first AFCON triumph since 2013.
