South-East Will Back Tinubu in 2027, Last Election Was a Mistake – Umahi
Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has declared that the South-East will back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, with Ebonyi State leading the charge. Speaking on Saturday at the Ohanivo 2025 New Yam Festival in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, the former governor dismissed the influence of the Peter Obi-led Obidient Movement in the region, insisting that the political tide has shifted.
“We are not Obidient people. We have been so marginalized that we are no longer Obidient,” Umahi said. “It is the man that has given us a sense of belonging, President Bola Tinubu. There is no Obidient person in Ebonyi State.”
The minister argued that the South-East has endured long-standing political neglect and now sees Tinubu as a leader offering inclusivity. He added that the region would not repeat what he described as “political mistakes” of the last election, promising instead to support Tinubu’s re-election bid as a mark of gratitude for his “good deeds” in the South-East.
“What we have to do is to record the good things that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done for South-East and Ebonyi State when the time comes,” Umahi said. “We will not be deceived again because the last election was a mistake, but we have come to be wiser.”
