Soludo Blames Obi, Obiano for Ogidi Flooding as Ukachukwu Visits Victims with Relief Materials

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has blamed former governors Peter Obi and Willie Obiano for the flooding that has ravaged Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area, displacing dozens of families and destroying property worth millions of naira.

During a campaign visit to the community ahead of the November 8 governorship election, Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said the current disaster was a result of poorly executed drainage projects under previous administrations. He noted that the improper termination of drainage systems had worsened flooding in parts of the state.

“Because government is a continuum, we will take it up to solve the issue,” Soludo assured, citing the ongoing drainage work in Owelle Aja, Obosi, which he said was 70 to 80 percent complete. He highlighted similar interventions in Inland Doors and Nkpor and commended the Ogidi community for enforcing the construction of catchment pits as a local solution. However, he admitted that “the contractor did a poor job,” promising corrective action.

Meanwhile, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, suspended his campaign activities to visit the affected residents, distributing relief materials and pledging swift intervention if elected. He described the flooding as “a clear failure of government,” accusing the APGA-led administration of neglecting a problem that has persisted for years.

“One of the primary duties of any government is to secure lives and property. Once a government fails in that regard, it has failed completely,” Ukachukwu said while addressing residents. He lamented the loss of homes, ancestral shrines, farmlands, and property, and criticized APGA’s two-decade rule in the state for yielding “promises without results.”

“If they could not achieve it in twenty years, how can they possibly do it in the next four years?” he asked, urging the people to vote for the APC as “a vote for change.”

The flooding in Ogidi has left at least 30 families homeless, with residents calling for urgent government action to prevent further devastation.
