Security Forces Kill Another Notorious Bandit Leader in Zamfara, Destroy Insurgent Camps in Borno
Security forces have successfully neutralized another high-profile bandit leader, Kachalla Makore, in the Magami area of Gusau Local Government Area, Zamfara State. The operation, carried out on September 23, also resulted in the deaths of several of his fighters, further weakening the influence of bandits in the region.
According to Zagazola Makama, a security publication focused on the Lake Chad region, Makore and his men were en route to recover the body of Kachalla Sani Black, another notorious bandit leader, who had been killed earlier by security operatives in the Dan Sadau area of Maru LGA, Zamfara.
“Kachalla Makore rose to prominence after the death of his predecessor, Kachalla Damuna, and was notorious for his criminal operations in Kangon Garacci village within Maru LGA,” the publication added. Both Makore and Black were key figures in the escalating violence that has plagued Zamfara and surrounding states for years.
This operation is part of a broader military effort to curb the wave of banditry and insurgency gripping Nigeria’s northern region. In a series of coordinated strikes, Nigerian troops have launched several successful operations against bandit camps.
In Borno State, troops recently destroyed insurgent camps as part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations. On September 11, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel thwarted a terrorist attack on the Department of State Services (DSS) facilities in Shiroro LGA, Niger State, killing at least 28 insurgents with airstrikes and dispersing many others.
Additional operations in Zamfara have also proven effective. On September 13, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji ambushed and killed another notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Buzu, in Mayanchi village. During the operation, troops recovered 30 motorcycles and a large cache of weapons, crippling the operational capabilities of the group.
President Bola Tinubu, in response to these successes, commended the Nigerian Army for their intensified counter-insurgency efforts in the north-west. The president urged security forces to sustain the momentum until all threats are eradicated permanently and assured them of continued support in ensuring national safety and security.
