Reps Summon Rivers Sole Administrator for Oversight Session
The House of Representatives has summoned the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), to appear before its Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight for an interactive session scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
The invitation was announced in a statement issued Wednesday by the House Spokesman, Akin Rotimi (Jnr). The 21-member committee, chaired by House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, was inaugurated on Tuesday by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, following the National Assembly’s resolution endorsing the Presidential Proclamation of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.
According to Rotimi, the committee resolved to summon the Sole Administrator during its inaugural meeting on Wednesday. The session aims to assess the current situation in Rivers State and evaluate developments since Vice Admiral Ibas assumed office.
House Leader Ihonvbere stated that the engagement is vital for establishing a clear understanding of the state’s affairs and ensuring the House fulfills its constitutional oversight duties under Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). He emphasized that transparency and public interest would guide the committee’s actions.
A formal invitation has been sent to and acknowledged by the Sole Administrator. The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out its responsibilities with diligence and in strict accordance with the law.
