Real Reason Buhari Didn’t Endorse Osinbajo for Presidency Revealed
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed why he did not support his former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, in the 2022 presidential election. The revelation comes from Buhari’s biography, *From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammad Buhari*, authored by Dr. Charles Omole.
According to the book, Buhari explained that he never personally knew Osinbajo, having met him only through President Bola Tinubu. He was reportedly surprised that Osinbajo chose to contest against Tinubu during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries. “I don’t know Osinbajo from anywhere, I met him only through Tinubu,” Buhari said.
Osinbajo is widely regarded as one of the political figures groomed by Tinubu during his tenure as governor of Lagos State. He served as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State while Tinubu was governor. Ahead of the 2015 presidential election, Tinubu is believed to have recommended Osinbajo to Buhari as his running mate.
The biography, launched at the Presidential Villa, provides new insights into Buhari’s political decisions and relationships, shedding light on the factors behind his choices during key moments in Nigeria’s recent political history.
