Re: The Event at Lekki Toll Gate. The Anger and The Rage – Lagos PDP stands with Chief Olabode George
The Chairman, People’s Democratic Party PDP Lagos State Chapter, Engr Adedeji Doherty has lent his voice in support of Chief Olabode George, who in a recent press conference lashed out at the entire leadership of Lagos State as governed by Babajide Sanwo-Olu and controlled by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Engr Doherty in a press interview, described Chief Olabode George’s press statement as a Masterpiece and a Masterstroke which hit the nail on the head as it concerns the state of affairs in Lagos State.
He gave kudos to the Atona Odua of Yorubaland for coming out to support the #EndSARS protest, regarding him as a committed elder stateman, who seemingly has the Nigerian youths at heart even though he beligs to the generation that had failed the youths.
Chief Olabode George had advised in his press conference that the two Lekki Toll Gates should be dismantled, while a monument should be erected as a permanent memorial to honour the young men and women who stood up in a peaceful protest against the ills in the society.
The Lagos State PDP Chairman however, implored the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Babatunde Akiolu to stand up to their responsibilities with a view to leaving a befitting legacy for Youths and citizens of Lagos State yet unborn.
Engr Adedeji Doherty’s press statement read in part that “We want to encourage the Youths of Lagos State, as can be deduced from Chief Olabode George’s press conference that the Lagos PDP, is not gunning for any particular Political mileage from the recent happenings, but we are using this opportunity, to advice the Youths of the state to view the happenings as reasons to take very active roles in politics.”
He further stated that “records at our disposal state that there are about 7million registered voters in Lagos State, out of which about 70% are youths”.
“The records further reveal that about 80% of these youths never turn up at polling units to vote” and are not members of any political party”.
He said “This is the time for the Youths to express their feelings by taking more active roles in politics, while also venturing into political positions which will help them take part in the policy decision making of the State”.
“If it can be done in Oyo State, why not Lagos State”.
“We wish to commiserate with the families of those who lost their loved ones during the protest, we pray that God would grant them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss, we also pray for the speedy recovery for all those that were injured during the protests”
Engr Doherty also asked the Lagos State Governor to look seriously into the plight of the unemployed youths, the homeless youths, the uneducated youths and finally the swelling number of mismanaged youths in the NURTW who are being used by politicians and later left in the cold to fend for themselves without any skills.
The resultant effect of this unholy union is what is playing out in Nigeria and especially in Lagos State today.
Engr Doherty, also asked the Governor of Lagos State to set up a Board of Inquiry into the receipt and distribution of the COVID-19 Palliative which was to be distributed to Lagosians during and after the peak of the crisis, the Chairman stated that the whole State COVID-19 palliatives distribution exercise was a total failure.
Finally, Engr Doherty in his statement said, “This interview would not be complete, if we fail to commend the youths for putting up a well organized and well articulated protest, that has been tagged the biggest protest ever in the history of the country and a protest that ultimately shook the whole world”.
Kudos to you all.
