Prof. Anyaehie Emerges as Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s 8th Vice Chancellor
Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie has been announced as the new Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, following a rigorous selection process conducted by the institution’s Governing Council. The appointment was confirmed in a statement issued by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Barr. Monsur Olugbenga Kokoyi.
A renowned professor of Medicine, Anyaehie steps into the role with decades of experience in teaching, research, and university administration. His service record includes membership on the governing councils of two universities and more than ten years on the Senate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He has previously held positions such as Head of Department, Director of Research and Publications, and most recently served as Deputy Provost of the UNN College of Medicine. He has supervised over forty postgraduate students, with several now serving as full professors, and has been an external examiner for numerous medical schools, including the West African Postgraduate Medical College.
Originally from Nkwerre in Imo State, Anyaehie was also the pioneer Provost of the College of Medicine at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. His international academic engagements include time as a visiting scholar at the Medical University of Graz in Austria and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium.
With a strong professional background and dedication to academic excellence, he is expected to guide Nnamdi Azikiwe University toward its strategic priorities and strengthen its standing as a hub for research, innovation, and community-focused scholarship.
