President Tinubu Mandates National Pledge Recitation at Official Events
In a move aimed at fostering national pride and allegiance, President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive mandating the recitation of the National Pledge immediately following the National Anthem at all official and public engagements.
The presidential directive, disclosed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, seeks to instill absolute respect for national symbols, strengthen allegiance to the country, and preserve Nigeria’s defining ethos.
During the groundbreaking ceremony of the Renewed Hope City housing project in Karsana, Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of upholding national values, promoting ideals, and adhering to established norms. He underscored the commitment to the nation’s greatness and urged citizens to serve Nigeria with unwavering dedication.
President Tinubu explained, “The relaunch is about being committed to the values, greatness, and hope of our country. It is our pledge to Nigeria, our country, to be faithful, loyal, and honest. We will defend our unity and uphold Nigeria’s glory in every way possible because we are Nigerians, and we have no other country.”
While acknowledging challenges faced by the nation, Tinubu expressed confidence that Nigeria would excel in all aspects. The directive follows recent high-profile corruption investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, including the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation over alleged misappropriation of N585m in January.
This move by President Tinubu aims to reinforce a sense of national identity and commitment among citizens, emphasizing the importance of unity and fidelity to the country’s principles.
