Police Reveal Details of Kebbi School Attack: 25 Girls Abducted, Vice Principal Killed
Authorities in Kebbi State have provided new details regarding the recent attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, resulted in the abduction of 25 students and the death of the school’s vice principal.
According to Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, spokesperson for the Kebbi police command, the attackers were armed with sophisticated weapons and launched their assault on the school around 4:00 a.m. They engaged police personnel stationed at the school in a gunfight before fleeing with the students.
The police confirmed that Hassan Makuku, the vice principal of GGCSS Maga, was killed during the attack, while security guard Ali Shehu sustained gunshot injuries to his right hand. A teacher at the school reported that the gunmen retreated toward neighbouring Zamfara State with the abducted students.
Bello Muhammad Sani, the commissioner of police in Kebbi, said additional tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilance groups have been deployed to the area. He stated that the combined security teams are systematically searching suspected escape routes and surrounding forests in a coordinated effort to rescue the students and apprehend the attackers.
The commissioner urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, assuring that the police command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property throughout the state. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are working to verify the current location and condition of the abducted students.
