Plateau Attack: Two Fulani Women and Young Boy Shot Dead Near NYSC Camp
Two Fulani women and a young boy have been shot dead in a fresh attack along Mangu Road near the NYSC orientation camp in Plateau State. Security sources say the assailants, believed to be members of a Berom militia, stopped the victims’ commercial vehicle on Wednesday evening, forced them out, and shot them on the spot.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama described the killings as part of a troubling pattern of targeted attacks against Fulani communities in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom local government areas. “Residents describe these assaults as disturbing and unprovoked,” he said.
Community sources expressed frustration over the perceived lack of government response, noting that such attacks rarely receive public condemnation or result in arrests, unlike reprisal incidents which often dominate media coverage. “Despite the frequency of these killings, little effort has been made to bring perpetrators to justice, many of whom are reportedly well known in the communities,” they said.
A youth leader in the area, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the recurring violence has left local communities in despair. “We have lost count of our people killed in unprovoked assaults. Sadly, the world only takes notice during reprisals. The government must rise above bias and protect everyone equally,” he said.
Security sources warn that the latest killings have heightened tensions in the region, and without prompt intervention, retaliatory attacks could escalate the fragile security situation further. As of this report, neither the Plateau State Government nor the State Police Command has issued an official statement.
