Phyna’s Sister, Ruth Otabor, Dies After Truck Accident
Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Josephina “Phyna” Otabor, has died from injuries sustained in a road accident involving a Dangote truck.
The tragic incident occurred earlier this month near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. Phyna had previously disclosed that Ruth suffered severe injuries from the crash, including the amputation of one leg, possible loss of the other, as well as head and hand trauma.
Following the accident, Dangote Group released a statement confirming that senior officials and their insurance representatives visited the scene. The company said it engaged with law enforcement authorities and met the family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, pledging to cover medical expenses and provide compensation under its welfare policy.
Despite these efforts, Ruth passed away in the early hours of Sunday, August 31. The announcement was made through a legal statement shared on Phyna’s Instagram account.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their Daughter, Sister, and Mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025, at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.
The Otabor family appealed to the public and media for privacy as they mourn their loss, adding that details of Ruth’s funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
