“Peter Obi Will Not Have Our Ticket in 2027” — Labour Party’s Abayomi Arabambi
The Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, has declared that former presidential candidate Peter Obi will not be given the party’s ticket in the 2027 general elections. Arabambi made the remark on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s *Lunchtime Politics*, insisting that the party is prepared to move forward without Obi.
“We are going to do our 2027 without Peter Obi; he will not have our ticket,” Arabambi said, arguing that Labour Party’s existence does not depend on Obi’s 2023 campaign.
The spokesman also criticized the party’s acting National Chairperson, Nenadi Usman, and activist Aisha Yesufu, accusing them of aligning with Obi to undermine the party. He vowed that steps would be taken to remove them from the Labour Party’s structure.
Arabambi challenged Obi to openly declare his departure from the party, claiming the former governor was straddling multiple political platforms. “Obi has one leg in Labour Party, one leg in PDP, and one leg in ADC,” he said. “If he believes he can secure seven million votes on his own in 2027, we advise him to pronounce his exit.”
He further argued that Obi’s performance in the 2023 elections was not due to his personal influence but was driven by the momentum of the EndSARS movement and public dissatisfaction with the Buhari administration. “Obi only found Labour Party as a vehicle for change and was opportuned to lead,” Arabambi said.
