Niger State security forces have killed more than 40 armed militants in a large-scale operation targeting a militant hideout in Borgu Local Government Area. The raid took place in the Lakurawa area, reportedly under the control of militant leader Amir Tajuddeen.
According to security analyst Bakatsine, who shared details of the operation on X, the security forces stormed the camp and engaged the armed group, resulting in heavy casualties among the militants. “Security forces in Niger State conducted a major operation in Lakurawa hideout camp under the leadership of Amir Tajuddeen in Borgu LGA. Over 40 armed militants were reportedly killed during the raid,” Bakatsine wrote.
The operation is being described as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against insecurity in the region, where militant activities have posed serious challenges to local communities. Authorities say the raid demonstrates the state’s commitment to dismantling armed groups and restoring safety in affected areas.
Local officials have not yet released further details on whether any arrests were made or if weapons and other equipment were seized during the raid. Residents in Borgu LGA welcomed news of the operation, expressing hope that it will bring lasting security to the area.
