“Our Drivers Earn Four Times Minimum Wage, More than Graduates – Aliko Dangote
Dangote Group President Aliko Dangote has revealed that the company’s drivers earn four times the Nigerian national minimum wage, surpassing the earnings of many university graduates. Speaking in an interview with Arise Television on Tuesday, Dangote emphasized that joining the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) should remain a voluntary decision.
He addressed concerns about potential job losses linked to the launch of new trucks, noting that each truck employs around six people. “The trucks we launched didn’t stop anyone from their work. Every truck is about six people. So these trucks they are fighting over will create 24,000 jobs,” he said.
Dangote highlighted the benefits offered to drivers, including eligibility for a housing loan after five years without accidents. “Our salary is almost three or four times their own. Our drivers earn more than graduates. If you look at what they earn in a month, it’s almost four times the national minimum wage,” he added.
