Osun 2026: Why I Joined Accord Party — Gov. Adeleke
Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially joined the Accord Party, confirming his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election under the new platform. The announcement came less than 24 hours before the party’s governorship primary in Osun State. Adeleke resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on December 1, paving the way for his switch to Accord Party.
The governor made the declaration at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, with national and state leaders of the Accord Party present. His spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, described the move as a strategic step for the governor to seek a second term in office.
Speaking at the event, Adeleke said his decision followed weeks of consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders. “I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026,” he stated. “We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens and workers’ welfare. We are united in progress and good intentions for the people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.”
The governor stressed the need for a united front ahead of the elections, calling for inclusive leadership that prioritizes the welfare and well-being of all groups. He highlighted his administration’s achievements in infrastructure, social services, and other policies as evidence of his commitment to improving the lives of Osun residents.
Adeleke also urged party leaders and citizens across Osun West, East, and Central to support Accord Party, describing it as the platform for continuity and victory in 2026. “In accordance with the will of our stakeholders and to accord deep respect for the wishes of Osun people, I hereby declare for the Accord Party,” he concluded.
