“Obi Needs to Tame His Bloated Imagination” – APC Fires Back at Former Anambra Governor

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly rebuked Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, following his recent criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership. Obi, in an interview on Arise TV, suggested that Nigeria’s political system had deviated from democratic principles and stated that individuals with alleged criminal histories and certificate forgeries were leading the country.

Obi’s remarks, which implied that he would have performed better as president, were met with a sharp response from the APC. In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Felix Morka, the ruling party dismissed Obi’s claims, describing them as a product of delusion and electoral defeat. The APC’s statement characterized Obi as an “unlicensed backseat driver” suffering from an election-induced hangover, insisting that he needs to “tame his bloated and deluded imagination.”

While the APC criticized Obi’s leadership record in Anambra State, accusing him of leaving behind economic stagnation, infrastructural decay, and religious divisions, the party notably refrained from addressing his remarks on Tinubu’s past controversies. Obi had alleged that Nigeria’s leadership included individuals with forged certificates and criminal records, arguing that the nation lacked an independent judiciary and legislature capable of upholding democratic standards.

Despite finishing third in the 2023 presidential race, with results confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and upheld by the Supreme Court, Obi continues to challenge the current administration, raising concerns over governance and the rule of law in Nigeria.
