OAU Professor Slumps During Meeting, Dies En Route to Hospital
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, is in mourning following the sudden death of Professor Jimoh Olanipekun, who collapsed during a departmental meeting and passed away on the way to the hospital.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the incident in a statement, explaining that the professor fell ill during a meeting on Wednesday. Colleagues noticed he was breathing abnormally and rushed him to the university’s Health and Medical Centre for immediate attention. Doctors on duty examined him and referred him to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where he was pronounced dead.
Vice Chancellor Professor Adebayo Bamire, along with other members of the university’s management team, visited the late professor’s family to express condolences. Describing the loss as shocking and deeply saddening, Bamire praised the deceased’s contributions to academia and urged his family to take solace in the impact he had during his lifetime.
He reminded them that, as Christians, they should find comfort in the belief that life and death are ultimately in God’s hands. He also prayed for strength for the professor’s family, the Department of Philosophy, the Faculty of Arts, and the entire university community as they mourn the loss.
