“Nothing Troubles Me More Than the Security Crisis Bedevilling Nigeria” — Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has described insecurity as Nigeria’s most pressing challenge, particularly in the Northern region. Speaking on Saturday in Kaduna at the 25th Anniversary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and the launch of its Endowment Fund, Tinubu emphasized the urgent need to rebuild trust, strengthen unity, and restore safety across communities.
Represented at the event by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Tinubu said that insecurity must be addressed decisively to prevent further economic decline and setbacks in education. He noted that his administration inherited complex security challenges but is tackling them with urgency and determination, with a focus on eliminating terrorist and bandit groups and revitalizing the North’s economy.
Highlighting Northern Nigeria’s potential, the president expressed hope for the future, citing plans for crude oil production from Kolmani and other northern oil fields. He also pointed to key infrastructure projects, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Superhighway, which are being fast-tracked for completion.
Tinubu urged Northern leaders to confront challenges with honesty and courage, warning that progress is impossible if vulnerable communities are left unprotected. He stressed that national prosperity is hindered when parts of the country are immobilized by fear and insecurity.
Acknowledging decades of dysfunction that have strained unity, Tinubu praised the ACF for its 25 years of advocacy, describing the anniversary as a celebration of courage, principled service, and the defense of dignity and fairness. He called on leaders across all sectors to recommit to the forum’s founding values, emphasizing that the North’s stability and unity are essential for Nigeria’s overall peace and development.
