First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has attributed the rising get-rich-quick mentality in Nigeria to misleading messages from Nollywood films, social media, and prosperity-focused religious teachings. She warned that this trend is fueling human trafficking across the country.

Speaking at the State House in Abuja on Friday, February 7, Mrs. Tinubu made these remarks when the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Bello, led a delegation to her office. During the meeting, she was briefed on the agency’s recent activities, including a raid on a baby factory in Abuja, where 19 pregnant young girls were rescued.

According to a statement from her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady emphasized the need for a national reorientation towards patience and hard work. She urged young Nigerians to resist the lure of quick money, which makes them easy targets for traffickers and criminals.

“The get-rich-quick syndrome is not helping matters. Even our religious institutions are preaching prosperity, yet the Bible talks about work. Social media is also not helping, and Nollywood as well,” Mrs. Tinubu stated.

She reaffirmed her commitment to supporting NAPTIP in its fight against human trafficking and called for a collective effort to instill values of diligence and perseverance among Nigerian youths.
