Nnamdi Kanu Expresses Concerns While in Sokoto Prison
The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Oji River, Rt. Rev. Ikechukwu Egbuonu, has drawn attention to worries raised by Nnamdi Kanu during a recent visit to the Sokoto Correctional Facility.
In an interview with AIT, the Bishop said the IPOB leader spoke openly about his heart condition and the strain of managing his legal battle from a facility far from Abuja, where his appeal processes are anchored.
According to him, Kanu stressed that he needs to be in Abuja to harmonize his records with the High Court before moving forward with his appeal. With a 90-day window to work within, he expressed frustration that no directive had been issued to facilitate his temporary transfer for the required legal steps.
The Bishop noted that Kanu also lamented difficulties in communicating with his legal team, describing an unresolved issue with documents prepared for filing.
Responding to claims that the detained agitator had dismissed his lawyers, Bishop Egbuonu clarified that Kanu opted to represent himself while retaining his legal team as consultants. He added that the lawyers remain actively involved, noting that one of them accompanied him during the visit.
