Nine People Critically Injured in Knife Attack on UK High-Speed Train

Nine people are fighting for their lives following a violent stabbing on a high-speed train in eastern England on Saturday evening, leaving authorities and passengers in shock. Counter-terrorism police are now involved in the investigation, which has been declared a major incident.

The attack took place on the 6:25 p.m. LNER service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross, shortly after the train left Peterborough station in Cambridgeshire. According to British Transport Police (BTP), a man armed with a large knife went on a violent rampage before being subdued with a Taser by armed officers at Huntingdon station.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the attack and are currently in police custody. Ten victims were rushed to hospital, nine of whom are reported to have life-threatening injuries, while one person sustained non-life-threatening wounds. There have been no reported deaths.

BTP Chief Superintendent Chris Casey described the incident as “shocking” and expressed sympathy for the injured and their families. He warned that it may take time to determine the full circumstances and motive behind the attack, urging the public not to speculate.

The area around Huntingdon station remains cordoned off, with train services suspended and nearby roads closed as police continue their investigation. Authorities have thanked members of the public for their cooperation in helping manage the emergency response.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the attack “deeply concerning” and advised people to follow official guidance.

Witnesses described scenes of panic and terror on the train. Some passengers reportedly hid in toilets to escape the attacker, while others struggled to flee, with one witness telling The Times that there was “blood everywhere.” Another witness described the scene to The Sun as “like something from a film… really violent.”

While it remains unclear whether the attack was terror-related, Counter Terrorism Policing is supporting the investigation as authorities work to establish what led to the shocking incident.
