“Nigerians Will Enjoy Uninterrupted Power Supply Before Tinubu Leaves Office” – Adelabu

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that they will enjoy full and uninterrupted electricity supply before the end of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tenure. This commitment, he said, aligns with the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve power generation, transmission, and distribution nationwide.

Speaking on Saturday, August 1, 2025, during the commissioning of the Kwaru 1X15 MVA 33/11KV Injection Substation in the Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos, Adelabu reaffirmed the President’s vision for a reliable power sector as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda. His comments were also shared in a press statement issued from Abuja.

“The present administration, led by His Excellency, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, recognizes that energy is not merely a commodity; it is the backbone of economic growth and job creation,” Adelabu stated. He highlighted a multi-pronged approach being implemented by the Federal Government, which he said has already produced tangible results.

Adelabu emphasized that the newly commissioned substation would improve electricity supply in communities including Abaranje, Isijola, Igando Road, Omoboriowo, and Okerube, while also stimulating Lagos State’s economy. He said the initiative would reduce power-related operational challenges, boost small and medium-sized enterprises, create jobs, and support economic growth.

The Minister pointed to several achievements under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the decentralization of the power sector through the Electricity Act 2023, which activated twelve state electricity markets and led to the creation of a National Integrated Electricity Policy—the first in 24 years. He also noted that over \$2 billion in fresh investments had been attracted to expand electricity access, and that the transition toward commercialization had boosted sector revenue by 70 percent in 2024.

Other notable milestones include an increase in installed generation capacity from 13GW to 14GW, with a peak generation record of 5,801.44 MW and a maximum daily energy delivery of 128,370.75 MWh recorded on March 4, 2025. He also credited the Siemens Project with stabilizing the national grid and adding over 700 MW in transmission capacity.

Adelabu added that ₦700 billion had been mobilized from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) for the Presidential Metering Initiative, along with a $500 million World Bank fund under the Distribution Sector Recovery Program (DISREP), which is expected to provide 3.45 million new meters across the country.

Despite these gains, the Minister acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly at the distribution level, where losses exceed regulatory limits and remittances remain low. He pledged to work closely with Distribution Companies (DisCos) to resolve these issues and ensure nationwide energy security.

He praised Ikeja Electric for completing the Kwaru substation within 12 months, commending their planning, technical expertise, and stakeholder engagement. “Ikeja Electric is one of the top-performing DisCos in Nigeria. We recognize their efforts and encourage them to continue expanding access and improving service quality,” he said.

Adelabu concluded by reaffirming the Federal Ministry of Power’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance energy reliability and affordability for all Nigerians.
