Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Buhari, and Rufai Among Google’s Most Searched Nigerians in 2025

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has emerged as the most searched Nigerian in Google’s 2025 Year in Search report, reflecting growing public interest in her political career. The Kogi Central lawmaker topped a list shaped by key political developments, cultural moments, and national conversations.

The report highlights how Nigerians turned to Google throughout 2025 to follow fast-moving news, from local politics to global events such as the Israel–Iran conflict and the US elections. Searches surged after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, as citizens revisited his tenure and evaluated his impact on the nation’s political history. Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai also drew widespread attention, with fans revisiting his career highlights following his passing.

Entertainment trends dominated online activity. Gospel hit *Jesus Is Enough* by Tkeyz featuring Steve Hills was the most searched song, followed by Fido’s *Joy Is Coming* and Davido and Omah Lay’s *With You*. In Nollywood, director Kemi Adetiba ranked among the most searched personalities, driven by the success of her series *To Kill a Monkey*, which became the year’s most searched local show.

Nigerians also engaged with viral internet culture, with the ‘Labubu’ trend topping the list of most asked questions and growing interest in the term “Achalugo,” popularized by the YouTube film *Love in Every Word*. Food and lifestyle searches reflected changing tastes, including Chinchin recipes, the trending Pornstar Martini, and health-focused Ginger Shots.

Commenting on the report, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s Communications & Public Affairs Manager for West Africa, said the Year in Search “is more than just data; it reflects the topics and people that captured the attention of Nigerians throughout the year. From following major headlines to exploring cultural trends, Search offers a clear window into what matters to our society.”
