NAFDAC Warns Against Circulation of Counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” Sachets in Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised alarm over the circulation of fake Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets in Nigeria. In a statement issued today, August 22, the agency explained that Promasidor, the manufacturer of Cowbell, stopped producing the “Our Milk” variant in September 2023 and replaced it with Cowbell “Our Creamy Goodness.”

NAFDAC disclosed that the counterfeit products currently being sold are imitations of the discontinued packaging and are not produced or distributed by Promasidor. The fake sachets carry unauthorized use of the Cowbell brand name, NAFDAC registration number, and packaging design.

The agency warned that consumption of counterfeit milk poses serious health risks, including exposure to toxic chemicals, unapproved additives, and diluted ingredients. Potential dangers include foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, organ damage, and in extreme cases, death. Infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are particularly at risk.

Details of the counterfeit product include Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachet, falsely marked as manufactured by Promasidor Nigeria Ltd, with a production date of April 2025 and expiry date of December 2028.

NAFDAC urged healthcare professionals and consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspected sales of counterfeit or substandard food products. Reports can be made at the nearest NAFDAC office, by calling 0800-162-3322, or via email at [sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng](mailto:sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng).
