Morocco Smash Records with 16-0 Win Over New Caledonia in FIFA U-17 World Cup
Morocco etched their name into FIFA U-17 World Cup history on Sunday with an extraordinary 16-0 victory over New Caledonia, marking the largest winning margin ever recorded in the tournament. The result keeps the young Atlas Lions’ hopes of advancing to the knockout stage alive as they await confirmation of their progression as one of the best third-placed teams.
In a must-win match to stay in contention, Morocco displayed relentless attacking prowess from start to finish. Their dominance was clear from the outset, registering 79 shots and producing 10 expected goals in a match that quickly turned one-sided. New Caledonia’s challenge became even harder after two players, Typhan Dreuko and Jean Canehmez, were sent off in the first half.
The numerical advantage only spurred Morocco further, as Oualid Ibn Salah, Abdelali Eddaoudi, Ziyad Baha, Nahel Haddani, Ismail El Aoud, and Abdellah Ouazane each netted twice. Every attack seemed to end with a scoring opportunity as the North Africans pressed for every possible goal to boost their qualification chances.
Despite the emphatic win, Morocco finished third in Group B behind Portugal and Belgium. Their fate in the tournament now depends on results from other groups to determine if they advance among the best third-placed teams.
