Mob Burns Three Touts to Death in Abuja After Fatal Crash Kills Family of Three
Tension gripped the Mabushi area of Abuja on Wednesday after three suspected park touts were lynched and set ablaze by a mob following the deaths of a man, his wife, and their son in a tragic accident.
The incident occurred on the Mabushi Bridge when the touts, locally referred to as agberos and linked to the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), allegedly tried to extort money from the family. Eyewitnesses said the suspects forcibly dragged the steering wheel of the family’s car while in motion, causing it to crash. All three occupants died instantly.
In a video circulating online, the suspects were seen lying on the ground before being doused with petrol and set on fire by an unidentified individual. Voices in the footage were heard calling on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to take urgent steps to ban AMAC touts, citing recurring cases of harassment and violence linked to their activities.
“This is what AMAC *agberos* have caused here in Abuja. They are causing a lot of harm. Both families died because of agbero. Imagine, they chased this man, entered his car, and dragged the steering from his hand. The man died, his wife died, and his son died,” an eyewitness said.
Residents are now demanding decisive action from the FCT administration to curb the menace of touts across the city.
