‘May Their Road Be Rough’: NNPP Chairman Dismisses Defectors, Reaffirms Party Unity
The national chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ajuji Ahmed, has dismissed party members who recently defected to other political platforms, describing them as renegades and wishing them a difficult path in their new political homes.
Ahmed spoke on Thursday during the 10th meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held in Abuja. He urged party members to ignore those who had left the NNPP, saying their actions were no longer relevant to the party’s future.
He said those who abandoned the party had willingly left what he described as calm waters, only to find themselves in more difficult political situations. According to him, the NNPP has no reason to be distracted by their departure.
The NNPP chairman maintained that the party has remained united despite alleged attempts by external forces to destabilise it. He stressed that the party has not been factionalised, nor taken over by any individual or interest group, adding that its leadership structure remains intact and focused.
Ahmed reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its philosophy and objectives, saying the NNPP remains cohesive and determined to pursue its political goals without internal division.
He also praised the NNPP-led government in Kano State, commending the governor’s performance in key areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure and human development.
Warning against moves to impose a one-party system in the country, Ahmed said such efforts would eventually fail. He noted that political success depends on bringing together compatible interests, warning that forcing incompatible alliances would only lead to internal collapse.
Ahmed assured party members that the National Working Committee would continue working to strengthen the NNPP across the country and position it for success in the next general election.
