Man Dies in Motorcycle Accident Hours After Escaping Kidnap Attempt

A somber cloud has settled over the Ogwashi-Uku community in Delta State following the tragic death of a man identified as Ability, who lost his life in a motorcycle accident just hours after surviving a kidnapping attempt at his residence.

Human rights advocate Harrison Gwamnishu shared the heartbreaking sequence of events on social media late Tuesday, July 29. According to Gwamnishu, armed kidnappers had stormed Ability’s home on Monday, July 28, but were thwarted by his alert and courageous gateman. A video shared online captured the dramatic moment the gateman quickly shut the gate as the attackers opened fire, preventing them from gaining access to the property.

In a devastating twist, Gwamnishu revealed that just a day later, Ability was killed in a motorcycle accident while on his way to visit his wife. A follow-up video showed his lifeless body in a casket, leaving many in shock over the sudden and tragic turn of events.

“Mr. Ability that escaped kidnapping yesterday died this evening by motorcycle accident,” Gwamnishu wrote. “This morning we were in his house, Ability gave me Four Cousins \[wine] and appreciated me for the work I do. This evening, he told them to carry him with motorcycle to visit his wife and had an accident that took his life.”

Gwamnishu expressed his deep sorrow, saying, “A man that survived more than 17 bullets from armed kidnappers yesterday, slept, woke up, and this evening he’s being lowered. I have never heard of such bad news before.”

Ability reportedly died along the Issele-Uku route on his way to Obomkpa, his village. His sudden death has left the community reeling, especially after his narrow escape from such a violent attack just hours earlier.
